The Touching Reason Kingsman: The Golden Circle Cancelled Its Premiere

Premieres for big movies occasionally get cancelled for a variety of reasons. Regardless, when Kingsman 2 recently cancelled its premiere it wasn't following aterrorist attack or done to avoid further controversy or whatever. Actually, the reason that Kingsman: The Golden Circle cancelled its premiere was rather touching: the film opted to cut out its premiere and donate the money that would have been spent on the premiere to help with the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey.

The Kingsman: The Golden Circle official premiere was scheduled for New York City on Tuesday, September 12. The premiere was expected to be the same day as the upcoming hurricane relief telethon, Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief, and that didn't wash with the studio. A spokesperson for Twentieth Century Fox Films released a statement noting that the company was aware of fundraising efforts for Hurricane Harvey and that the team behind the film thought those efforts should take precedent over a movie premiere. Here's the full statement:

Given the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and the important fundraising efforts happening on Sept. 12, we have canceled that evening's planned film premiere event for Kingsman: The Golden Circle. To that end, Twentieth Century Fox Film will be donating the money budgeted for the premiere to several of the non-profit groups associated with the telethon.

Other premieres and screenings are still in the cards, and Twentieth Century Fox doesn't plan to cancel all of them, but the gesture is a nice one, nonetheless, as it's a prominent way to raise money and awareness (but surely cancelling an event is no easy task, either). The London premiere of Kingsman: The Golden Circle will still happen on September 18. Other events are also moving forward.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle will be hitting theaters later this month, with a U.S. release on September 22. It's not the only big film out this month either, as this weekend also sees the release of the highly anticipated film IT, based on the Stephen King novel.
