One Concern Chris Hemsworth Had Moving To Avengers: Infinity War After Thor: Ragnarok

Thor Ragnarok Chris Hemsworth
Having been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2009, Chris Hemsworth is all too familiar with the daunting task of taking on a new movie as the God of Thunder. Despite all of this experience, however, the actor actually found himself a bit trepidatious about the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War -- and not for the reasons you may think. It wasn't because of the scale of the production or what the film means for the larger franchise, but rather because of the amazing time he had working with director Taika Waititi on Thor: Ragnarok. Hemsworth recently told me,
I came into [The Avengers: Infinity War] honestly nervous after this film, because I had the most liberating experience, thinking, 'Arg, I've got to keep this continuity.' And it was a whole different experience again, but as enjoyable. I think if you stay open-minded to it, and available to anyone's suggestions and input, then I think that's the safest place to be, you know?
Chris Hemsworth is currently in production on Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers 4, but has taken a break from filming to do the press tour for Thor: Ragnarok. I had the chance to sit down with him in Los Angeles earlier this week to talk about the latest blockbuster in the Marvel canon, and it was during our conversation that we discussed what at this point is the very near future. After discussing his partnership with Taika Waititi on this film, I asked how it compared to working with the Russo brothers, and he explained why it was a daunting task to take on The Avengers: Infinity War.
As hinted at by Chris Hemsworth, Thor undergoes a pretty significant change as a character in Thor: Ragnarok, but the movie itself is also very different than the hero's previous solo efforts. While directors Kenneth Branagh and Alan Taylor infused the first two Thor titles with more drama to balance out the weird fantasy/sci-fi elements natural to the story, Taika Waititi has totally leaned into it, and the result is a bright and colorful blockbuster that features a God of Thunder with an enhanced and wonderful sense of humor. Hemsworth clearly loved this experience so much that it actually made him fret the idea of doing something completely different -- and The Avengers: Infinity War certainly looks a hell of a lot darker - but as now notes, that fret was needless because he's been enjoying his experience on the new movie.

Fans will next be able to see Chris Hemsworth's Thor on the big screen when Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters on November 3rd -- but after that it won't be long until he returns once again, with The Avengers: Infinity War scheduled for May 4, 2018. Stay tuned for all of our coverage on both movies, including more from my interviews with the Thor: Ragnarok cast and filmmakers!
